     CURRENT "FAMILY-TO-FAMILY" CLASS SCHEDULES AND LOCATIONS

The following list is a current schedule of the Free 12-week series of Family-to-Family classes now being offered or forthcoming.  Many locations in Colorado offer the Family-to-Family program twice a year, with most areas starting around August/September, and then again in January/February.  If a class has already started, you may still register for that class up to and through the 3rd week.  After the 3rd class, no further registrations will be accepted for that class, but we can add your name to our waiting list.  Please contact the Area Coordinator in your area (See Above) or contact Cheri Bishop, Director of Eduation Programs, at 303-518-1289; or cbishopnami@aol.com, in order to have your name added to our waiting list for the next available class in your area.   NOTE: You MUST register in order to attend a class.

FAMILY-TO-FAMILY TEACHER TRAININGS

NAMI Colorado is presently looking for volunteers who would be interested in training to teach the NAMI Colorado Family-to-Family Education program. To be eligible, you must (1) be a family member or caregiver of an individual having a mental illness, (2) be a member of NAMI Colorado, and (3) commit to teaching two 12-week Family-to-Family courses within a 2 year period. Since this training is a weekend training, you must plan to stay overnight on both Friday and Saturday nights at the hotel.  Hotel check-in is at 9 AM Friday, and the training begins at 10:00 AM on Friday and ends on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Costs for lodging, meals, and materials will be provided for by NAMI Colorado.  This is an intensive training and you must attend all 3 days in order to receive your Family-to-Family teacher certificate. NOTE:  The next Family-to-Family teacher training is scheduled for September 10-12, 2010.

NAMI CONNECTION RECOVERY

SUPPORT GROUPS

NAMI Connection is a recovery support group program for adults living with mental illness that is expanding in communities throughout the country. These groups provide a place that offers respect, understanding, encouragement, and hope. NAMI Connection groups offer a casual and relaxed approach to sharing the challenges and successes of coping with mental illness. All groups are confidential - participants can share as much or as little personal information as they wish.

NIMH Study Needs Volunteers!

Schizophrenia: Can Cognitive Function be Enhanced? 

Volunteers are needed to participate in a trial study conducted by the National Insitute of Mental Health (NIMH).

NIMH is conducting inpatient research trials using FDA- approved medications known to influence the cognitive functions of the brain for disorders other than schizophrenia. Click here for details

A New Research Study on Sleep Habits of Children Needs Your Help!

A research team at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in the Division of Pediatric Neurology, led by Dr. Richard Frye, is conducting a new research study on the sleep habits of children, with or without mental illness.

The study is in online survey format for maximum convenience and anonymity, and measures have been taken to ensure theprivacy and security of survey takers. In it, we ask questions about the child's sleep habits and previous medical history.
